IIT’s Recruitment Schedule for New Graduates

IIT’s Recruitment Schedule for New Graduates
Calendar 2023-09-06

When you hire a newly graduated engineer from IIT, you have to do it in a way that is completely different from the way you hire in Japan. So here’s a step-by-step guide to how companies recruit IIT students. However, the specific schedule may vary from year to year, so please refer to the official IIT website and recruitment information for the latest information.

Placement

IIT hires are required to participate in placement, a job interview event organized by each IIT school. Recruitment at other times is essentially a no-go, a system in which the university strictly controls the length and rules of the job search so students can focus on their studies. Placement starts at 0:00 midnight on December 1 every year, but companies need to start preparing around May.

Here is the schedule by season:

Operational flow

May: Meetings with the IIT school about placement (adjusting the day, etc.)

June: Match personnel requirements

July: Human resource requirements finalized

August and September: PPT (company briefing)

October and November: Applications and examinations

November: Day negotiations

December: Interview

Each IIT school has a placement center dedicated to job hunting. Each school has a different organizational structure, so one option is to go through a recruitment agency that will take care of you accordingly.

After aligning personnel requirements with the placements in May and June, the companies will begin preparations for promotion. Company information sessions will be held for students in August and September. Since many of the world’s leading companies participate in the placement every year, a key factor is how well you can convey the appeal of a company to students at the pre-briefing.

From October and November, companies will conduct coding tests for applications from companies and hiring engineers. After the screening is completed there, the placement team and the Day negotiates, that is, how many days they can participate in the placement. Once a student accepts an offer at a placement, they are prohibited from participating in the placement after the next day. That’s why negotiating Day is so important because many good students are acquired early.

“Cost to Company (CTC)” is what students value most when they make an offer. CTC is a value standard that determines how good a salary or treatment a company offers to a student is, and since many students live up to it, it is at the heart of how attractive a company can make an offer.
